The Mushrooms of Violetta White Delafield (Virtual)

Violetta White Delafield (1875–1949) was an American botanist and one of the first women to work in the field of mycology in the U.S. She studied a group of mushrooms known as Gasteromycetes that include the puffballs, stalked puffballs, and earthstars, and she discovered several new species of these mushrooms. As a horticulturalist Delafield designed the gardens of the Montgomery Place estate on the Hudson River where she lived, and her many watercolor illustrations of mushrooms are a permanent testament to her artistry and contribution to the science of mycology.
