Immerse yourself in an evening of mesmerizing sounds and captivating movement from the island of Bali. Gamelan Yowana Sari, a renowned ensemble from Queens College, will transport you to the tropics through their mastery of the gamelan - the vibrant percussion orchestra that is the heart of Balinese music.
Under the direction of Michael Lipsey and Fred Trumpy, the group will perform a captivating program of traditional and modern gamelan works, including pieces by celebrated composers Michael Gordon, Evan Ziporyn and I Dewa Ketut Alit. Enhancing the musical landscapes will be the graceful dancing of Miranda Danusugondo, interpreting several of the compositions through the uniquely expressive Balinese dance traditions.
In addition to the performance, attendees will gain deeper insight through a lecture-demonstration explaining the concepts that shape the gamelan art form. FREE!
