Event Details

This documentary-style film is based on a true event that occurred in Bridgeport, Connecticut, but was shot on location in Stamford. The plot centers on a district attorney who jeopardizes his career by defending a stranger accused of murdering a popular town resident.

The film is significant for its portrayal of small-town American life and politics in the immediate post-World War II era. While it was Kazan's third directorial effort, he credited this project as the one that truly taught him how to direct films. Nominated for one Academy Award.

Starring Dana Andrews, Lee J. Cobb, Jane Wyatt, Arthur Kennedy; directed by Elia Kazan (88 minutes )

New Rochelle Plays Hollywood is a film series presented by the New Rochelle Public Library. Prior to the screening, film aficionado Les Srager will introduce the history of the film and its creative personnel with a discussion period following the screening.
